An Awakening

Exciting news! We've decided to buy a house with land and start a small farm when we move. It's a big lifestyle change and one that I'm extremely excited about. We would like to have at least 3 acres, but would love to have around 10 acres. We hope to have one or two horses, a dozen or so chickens and a good-sized vegetable garden. Eventually I'd possibly like to add a cow to our mix.

I've already started looking at houses in the new area, but am not getting too excited about any of them until we actually see them in person. Pictures and descriptions given on the internet can be deceiving, so I'm keeping my mind open to anything that looks like a possibility.

I currently have plans to build two chicken tractors (portable chicken coops with runs), a three-section compost bin, two or three rain barrels, and numerous raised beds for fruits and vegetables. We might also need a gardening shed and small barn if those are not already on the property or in good condition. I've found several good websites and books with information on all things farming and gardening. I've collected many of my ideas on my Pinterest site at http://pinterest.com/jcdice4/.
